Meta Has Launched a New AI Model Series, Muse Wonder, Competing with Anthropic and OpenAI
Meta has unveiled a new series of AI models called Muse Wonder, which the company claims has reached the same level of advancement as leading labs like Anthropic and OpenAI.
In a tweet on Monday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated, “Muse Wonder is a much larger and more advanced class of models that brings us to the frontier.” This development marks the latest progress in Meta’s significant investment in AI, which has drawn scrutiny from some investors.
The Muse Wonder series comprises two versions: Muse Wonder, a smaller and faster model designed for everyday use, and Wonder Full, a more powerful and capable variant. According to a Meta statement, these models are engineered to handle complex multi-step tasks, such as disputing an insurance claim, thanks to features like memory and the ability to try alternative approaches.
Meta internally referred to the Muse Wonder series as Watermelon, as reported by a source familiar with the matter. In July, Business Insider learned that Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang had previously stated that Watermelon had caught up to OpenAI, noting that “Watermelon uses an order of magnitude more compute than Avocado,” a codename for Metaβs earlier Muse Spark models.
Leading up to the launch, Zuckerberg and other Meta employees hinted at the release through watermelon themed posts. For example, a tweet read, “Muse ordered me π how thoughtful!” Another stated, “vibes kinda good π πππ.”
Meta is investing heavily in AI, with reports of spending hundreds of billions of dollars on the technology. This investment has raised concerns among investors, who have questioned the company’s focus on AI. However, the launch of Muse Wonder appears to be a sign that Meta’s strategic bets are starting to yield positive results.
For now, the company will continue to refine and expand its AI capabilities, with the Wonder series poised to compete in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
