Meta Employees to Switch to Slack as AI Integration Boosts Internal Communications
Tech giant Meta is transitioning its internal communications from Google Chat to Slack, according to a memo from Meta’s AI chief, Alexandr Wang. The move aims to capitalize on Slack’s superior capabilities for handling AI agents.
“Slack is the strongest platform available today for agents, which is why we’re deciding to make the switch,” the memo states. “Slack offers a rich conversational interface for agents, mature developer tooling, and strong third-party integrations. While not all of us are building agents today, everyone at the company will benefit from a robust and useful agent ecosystem.”
Wang’s mention of “strong 3P integrations” highlights the importance of Slack’s compatibility with external tools and AI agents, making it a more versatile platform for Meta’s diverse operations.
This transition is a significant coup for Slack, which was acquired by Salesforce for $27.7 billion in 2021. Salesforce has been actively developing its own AI features and products, and this move underscores the growing importance of AI in enterprise communications.
Meta and Salesforce declined to comment on the switch, while Google did not respond to a request for comment.
The move to Slack also reflects the current prominence of AI agents in the tech landscape.
