Meta’s App for Creating Generative AI Minigames Now Available in the U.S.

Meta has officially rolled out its new app, Pocket, in the U.S. following a brief testing phase in Brazil. Pocket is described as a “platform for making and sharing gizmos,” which are interactive minigames created through prompts. These games are published to a scrollable feed, adding a social media element to the experience.

Users can create gizmos by providing prompts, and once saved to a profile, other users can remix them into unique creations. Pocket supports the full range of modern smartphone capabilities, allowing for interactive experiences that respond to both touch and tilt, and even include photos and songs.

Interestingly, these interactive creations are called gizmos rather than minigames for a few reasons. First, they offer more than just games; the marketing highlights simple experiences such as a canvas to paint on. Secondly, the name harks back to an earlier app called Gizmo, which was developed by a nearly identical team. Gizmo was essentially the same as Pocket and used similar terminology, referring to the creations as gizmos.

Pocket is currently available for free and can be downloaded now. While it might be worth a try for a few minutes, there’s no guarantee it will hold your interest for long.

This move aligns with Meta’s broader AI strategy. Last year, the company launched a feature called Vibes in the Meta AI app, which serves as a feed for AI-generated content. Additionally, Facebook introduced the ability to add AI-powered animations to profile photos.

Meta’s continued investment in AI-driven tools and experiences underscores its commitment to staying at the forefront of technological innovation.
