OpenAI Launches Images 2.6 in ChatGPT, Codex, and API, Boosting Image and GIF Generation Capabilities
OpenAI has rolled out an updated image generation model, Images 2.6, across its suite of products, including ChatGPT, Codex, and the API. This update includes enhanced capabilities for generating animated GIFs, allowing users to create, edit, and share GIFs directly within the AI chatbot. Additionally, the new model promises a significant speed improvement, generating over 4 billion images per week, up from 3 billion in September.
The latest update enables users to generate GIFs by simply providing a prompt or uploading a photo. Once the GIF is created, users can adjust its animation speed and view individual frames. For instance, ChatGPT can now respond to prompts like “can you make a gif of a cat dancing?” by generating a corresponding animated GIF, with options to modify playback speed and inspect individual frames.
Beyond GIF creation, Images 2.6 also accelerates image generation, making the entire process more efficient. OpenAI reports that users now generate over 4 billion images per week across ChatGPT and its API, a substantial increase from the previous figure. This update is being rolled out to all ChatGPT and Codex users on web, desktop, and mobile apps.
To further enhance image generation, OpenAI has introduced GPT-Image-2.6 Flare and Sunburst in its API. These models are designed to produce faster and higher quality images, providing developers with more advanced tools for their applications.
With these updates, OpenAI continues to expand the functionalities of its AI platforms, offering users and developers more versatile tools for content creation and image manipulation.
